Mark Kennedy #6
Mark Kennedy was undoubtedly the most talented player ever to "lace em up" with the Neepawa No-Stars Hockey Club. Not only was Mark a great hockey player, he was a great person. His perseverance and dedication to the game and life made him a best friend and inspiration to all his teammates.
"Wrangler" as he was affectionately known, hailed from the Wellwood area where he learned at a young age how to "turn on a dime" in the small confines of the Wellwood arena. Wrangler went on to play with and be Captain of both the Brandon Wheat Kings and the Brandon University Bobcats. Mark only stood 5'8" but opposing players soon learned you did not drop them with Wrangler, who also possessed a black belt in judo.
In 1985 Mark suffered a stroke, which affected his right side. This would have ended hockey for an average person but Mark being the determined individual he was, rehabbed himself back to game shape and rigged up a stick that he would tie to his hand. Wrangler rejoined the No-Stars and was once again patrolling the blue line in the game he loved.
While playing with the No-Stars in a game at Brandon in 1993, Mark suffered a heart attack and one week later, on April 14th, passed away. Besides his teammates and numerous hockey friends, Mark also left behind his best friend and wife Genie and his pride and joy, daughters Nikki and
Shawna.
